This page is designed as a "how to start up and use wikispaces". If you are wanting to start a wiki of your own, follow these steps...

1. Create an account by providing your e-mail address and a username, along with a password.

2. Add your students. If your wiki is set to "private", they will need their own usernames and passwords in order to access the site. If, however, you keep your wiki "public", then no username or password is required as anyone can access the site. (Note: usually "private" sites are by subsription, but if you e-mail wikispaces and tell them the space is set up for K-12 education purposes, they will make it "private", for free!)

To add your students, you must be the "organizer" of the wiki (so, you'll have to create your own space)
1. On a word document, create a two column table. In one column, have the students username.
In the other, their password. Save this document.
2. Go to Manage Wiki on the left hand side of your wikis homepage.
3. Click on User Creator
4. You will be asked "Which wikis do you want to add users to?" Click on the name of your wiki.
You will then be asked "How would you like to enter list?" The choices are upload or paste. You can
do either using the table you created in step 1. The easiest way is to copy/paste the table in. An area will appear where you can paste the table in.
5. The next step will ask you a series of questions about the table you just pasted in. Answer as necessary.
6. The next step asks you to double-check your data.
7. Confirm your users! Now you and your students can access the page and make edits, upload material, post and answer items for discussions, and make pages.

3. To make "pages" on your wikispace, click on New Page on the left hand side toolbar. Title the page. Pages could include your students names and they can then use their own page to upload material, assignments, etcetera. Also, each page has its own discussion board, so you can start discussions on specific topics, etc.

Good luck! Feel free to ask me any questions about wikis through the discussion section (once I leave!)
